“Your time comes and I don’t think it’s my time yet,” Robertson declared defiantly back in March while on Scotland duty.
And in May, during a conversation with Jamie Carragher, he leaned into sentiment while speaking to fans at Football for Change’s charity lunch:
“I’ve had eight wonderful years so far and I have a year left.
“I’ve cherished every moment I’ve played in front of these fans.”
That bittersweet hint matured into realism when speaking to BBC Scotland weeks later:
“I’m not getting any younger… but I still believe I’ve got a lot to give.”
